Bodmin Town 1 Saltash United 2

Saltash United moved up to second in the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League premier division after a deserved victory at Priory Park on Monday night.

The Ashes, trailing to an Adam Carter goal at half-time, hit back in style in the second half with goals from Dave Trott (penalty) and striker Sam Hughes.

The only setback for the visitors was a red card for midfield man Tom King after he collected a second yellow six minutes from time for bringing down Ollie Brokenshire.

King’s first yellow came in the 28th minute for a late challenge on Jake Ash which led to the Bodmin skipper limping out of the game with what looked a bad ankle injury.Bodmin were the better side in the first half and swept ahead in the 20th minute through Carter after Saltash keeper Ryan Rickard could only parry Brokenshire's piledriver. It was almost 2-0 a minute later when Ethan Phillips produced a superb header but Rickard reacted with a spectacular save, tipping the ball over the bar.And five minutes before the break it took an excellent clearance from Chris Menhenick, under his own bar, to deny Harry Evans. But Saltash equalized a minute into the second half with a Trott penalty after Hughes had been held back by former Ashes favourite Lewis Russell. For the next 20 minutes the visitors dominated proceedings but their finishing left a lot to be desired and it looked like they might have to settle for a point when Hughes forced the ball over the line in the 75th minute after good work by Richard Maddison and Ryan Richards.Bodmin poured forward in search of an equaliser but they were almost caught out in the third minute of time added on when substitute Lee Phillips burst clear along the right wing.He could have taken the ball towards the corner flag but he spotted Richards unmarked in the middle and squared to the prolific striker, who lifted his close range volley over the bar. There was just enough time for one more Bodmin attack and it took a point blank save from Rickard to deny Steve Simmonds.
