Saltash United 4 Falmouth Town 3
Saltash closed the gap on leaders Falmouth to one point after fighting back from 2-0 down after six minutes to beat them in the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League’s match of the day at Kimberley Stadium on Saturday.
Two goals in a minute from Jack Bowyer and Luke Brabyn gave the visitors a fantastic start but the Ashes recovered to be level before half-time with goals from Sam Hughes (34 minutes) and Ryan Richards (40).
Saltash were on top in the second half and they finally went ahead in the 76th minute when Hughes finished off an excellent through ball from substitute Dave Trott, who had been on the field for less than a minute.
And it was 4-2 in the 83rd minute when Richards smashed in his second goal after a rampaging run from the back by young Caleb Summerfield.
Jordan Annear pulled a goal back in the 89th minute to set up a nervy five minutes of time added on, but the Ashes held on for a tremendous three points.
They stayed in third place, however, because of Plymouth Argyle Reserves’ 3-0 win over Helston Athletic which keeps them second – also only a point behind Falmouth.
