Falmouth Town 2 Saltash United 4
Saltash came back from the dead at Poltair Park on Tuesday night to book their place in the Cornwall Senior Cup final with an astonishing victory over Falmouth.
Trailing 2-0 to goals from Jordan Annear (55) and Rob Wearne (59), the Ashes turned the semi-final on its head with three goals in seven minutes before Ryan Richards sealed the win nine minutes from time.
Saltash now face Bodmin or Newquay in the final at Helston on Easter Monday, April 17.
In appalling conditions, with heavy rain being driven across the sodden pitch by a bitter gale force wind, Saltash’s comeback was helped by a generous award for a penalty, which Richards fired home to reduce the arrears after 65 minutes.
But they needed no assistance to equalise six minutes later, with young midfield man Henry Wilson producing a stunning 20 yard volley which left Falmouth goalkeeper Ryan Barnes rooted to his line.
And before Falmouth could catch their breath, they succumbed to pressure in their penalty area a minute later with Tom Whipp putting the ball into his own net with Callum Hall poised to strike.
More mayhem in a now-saturated penalty area led to a mix-up between defenders and keeper Barnes, which Richards took advantage of to put the tie out of Falmouth’s reach.
