Saltash United 5 Elburton Villa 1

Saltash booked their place in the Walter C Parson League Cup final with an emphatic semi-final victory over Elburton Villa at Tavistock’s Langsford Park on Tuesday night.

The Ashes will face the winners of Wednesday night’s semi-final between Cullompton Rangers and Falmouth Town at Kimberley Stadium.

In Tuesday’s tie, the Ashes’ goals came from five different players – Sam Farrant, Danny Lewis, Lewis Russell, Dave Barker and Dave Trott.

Midfield man Farrant gave his side the perfect start by scoring direct from a free kick in the fourth minute, but they were pegged back five minutes before half-time by a powerful Ryan Lowton headed equalizer.

The turning point of the tie came two minutes into time added on at the end of the first half as referee Ben Slade adjudged Barker to have been bundled to the ground, and Lewis stepped up to fire in the resulting penalty.

Elburton were unhappy with the decision and still seemed to be unsettled early in the second half when Russell, making a surprise return to action after months out through injury, headed home a Farrant corner in the 57th minute to make it 3-1.

From that point, Saltash had control of the game and added further goals through Barker (77 minutes) and substitute Trott a minute into injury time.
