Saltash United will be looking to buck the trend of their appearances in this century’s Cornwall Senior Cup finals when they face holders Bodmin Town at Helston today, Easter Monday (2pm kick-off).

Since 2000, the Ashes have appeared in four finals – 2004, 2008, 2009 and 2012 – but lost them all, and it is 24 years since they lifted the prestigious trophy.

So the present set of players, and management pair Matt Cusack and Dane Bunney, will be hoping it is fifth time lucky against Darren Gilbert’s Bodmin at Kellaway Parc.

Cusack said: ‘We are really looking forward to the game.

’At the start of the season we set our players the objective of being in a title race and making an assault in the cups.

‘As it stands we have achieved those targets and now need to go one step further and win some silverware.
