Callington Town have announced that Rod and Kev Pethick have been appointed managers for the South West Peninsula League side for the 2018-19 season.

They will be assisted by Sam Borthwick, while this season’s heroes, Dan Jefferis and Ryan Lucassi ,will be resuming their playing careers having stepped into the breach with the help of Adam Chidzoy when the previous management team decided to leave.

In a statement the club said: ’We look forward to working with Rod and Kev, who have gradually risen up the management tree having successfully managed our thirds and seconds.’

Club vice chairman Andrew Long was also full of praise for the outgoing management team.

He said: ’The work that Ryan, Adam and especially Dan did for the club cannot every be under-estimated.

’When some players turned their back on the club when the previous management team left, these three became reluctant but fully committed managers and they helped steer the team through one of its most challenging seasons in our 29 year history.

’Their courage and steadfastness, together with the players that kept the faith, and those who returned to support us, will never be forgotten.

“It was so encouraging to see that, despite the results, they continued with their total support and were rewarded with improved performances. It was also great to see Ryan score his 150th goal for the club.

’It will be good to see both him and Dan return to playing and with the FA Vase qualification and big pre-season friendlies against Plymouth Argyle and Plymouth Parkway to come, they will be back on the field very soon.’

While the firsts may have finished the season with the FA-imposed punishing final few weeks, the seconds thirds, ladies and veterans still have a total of 14 games to play with three more chances of trophies to add to the Cornwall FA Women’s Cup (the club’s 34th major trophy since their formation in 1989) won by the Ladies in April.

On Thursday night the thirds are in the semi-finals of the Duchy League Cup against Foxhole at Nanpean while on Sunday, wins for the Veterans and Ladies could secure their respective league championships.
