SALTASH United suffered a shock defeat in the semi-finals of the Cornwall Senior Cup when they went down 3-1 to one-league-lower Wendron United at Sticker’s Burngullow Park.

The Ashes were bidding to reach their fourth successive Senior Cup final, but they were stunned when Wendron took a 2-0 lead inside the first 26 minutes with goals from Jack Stocker and Charlie Young.

Cameron Wheat added a third early in the second half after a mistake by Ashes goalkeeper Ryan Rickard to all but wrap up the tie.

But Saltash gave themselves hope when Sam Farrant scored with 18 minutes remaining.

However, it was not to be, and Wendron saw out the game to reach their first ever Senior Cup final, where they will meet Falmouth Town at St Austell’s Poltair Park on Easter Monday, April 18.
