Local pool player William Doidge, who represents the Cornish Ivy Liskeard, made the trip to Bodmin last Sunday to enter the county senior squad trials, with a field of 12 players trialing for three regular team places .

Doidge lost a match early on in the day when outplayed by Mark Berry (Truro).

This, however, only proceeded to wake Doidge up as he went on a run of eight matches without defeat to become the first man to qualify on the day for the over 50s outfit, some 16 years after he last pulled on a county shirt.
