League Cup final

Tavistock 3

Torpoint Athletic 0

Torpoint must have come off the pitch wondering how they lost Sunday's final in a game they dominated.

The Tamarsiders missed numerous first-half chances to put the game to bed only to come off at half-time a goal down and a player red carded.

On another day striker Brian Stacey would have bagged a hat-full of goals and he started by heading narrowly wide. This followed Ben Waters seeing his shot blocked with Jack Wood then having his shot well saved.

Tavistock's long ball game was proving dangerous but easily nullified. That was until the 28th minute when another long ball was latched on to by Scott Rennie who fired home. Torpoint then camped themselves in the Tavistock half. Stacey's fierce drive from six yards was well saved by goalkeeper Ryan Walkey. Another Stacey shot was blocked with Lewis Kershaw then hitting the crossbar and Stacey twice being denied through a blocked shot and a save.

Torpoint were then stunned on half-time when Dan Chapman was red carded for a dangerous challenge.

Ten-man Torpoint came out for the second half with all guns blazing. Playing four up front Ben Waters shot narrowly wide with defender Josh King poking the ball wide. Unfortunately playing so many up front Torpoint were always susceptible to a breakaway which came in the 75th minute when Jack Crago raced clear to fire home. Torpoint didn't give up and Stacey had another shot blocked. Torpoint continued to have most of the play but wasted chances to cross the ball into the penalty area and they were made to pay again when another long ball found Rennie who scored with a superb lob. Torpoint had the opportunity to score but Stacey's miserable afternoon was made complete when he smashed a penalty kick against the crossbar.
