Bond Timber Cornwall Cricket League round-up – Saturday, August 15

MENHENIOT-Looe’s survival hopes are back in their own hands after seeing off visiting Tintagel by a solitary run at Fourgates on Saturday.

The hosts had fallen 11 points adrift of Holsworthy in the race for survival, but after falling to 63-4 with Aussie Lachlan Embleton out for just eight, they fought back superbly to reach 207-7 courtesy of useful contributions from skipper Steve Kidd (38), Peter Nance (33) and Sam Jordan (41no) - the latter who starred with 2-26 with the ball. Veteran Mike Maiden, who later took 2-22, earlier made 32 at the top of the order.

The visitors were seemingly cruising to victory at 176-4, but although wicketkeeper Sam Abbott kept going, Cornwall Over 60s skipper Hugh Rogers (4-39) took four quick wickets with his left-arm spin.

Needing 13 off the last, bowled by Kidd, a wide plus a four and a six made Tintagel favourites. However, Abbott was castled for 66.

Menheniot were done a big favour by Lanhydrock who saw off Holsworthy by two wickets.

The Devonians raced out of the blocks to reach 62-0, but were dismissed for 182 which included 7-38 from off-spinner Jamie Eldridge. Ruben Turner (0-18 off 9) was once again impressive.

Lanhydrock collapsed from 61-0 to 70-3 and 145-3 to 162-8, but they held on. Christian James (38), Sam Remedios (47) and Ben Attfield (27) were the main run-getters.

Callington Seconds remain in pole position to finish second after a remarkable clash with visiting Bude.

The visitors recovered from 11-3 to reach 207-7 despite outstanding spells from Ryan Hodge (3-23) and Jim Shorten (1-28), but on the chase kept losing wickets despite opener Ben Allsop’s rapid 90 (73 balls).

A running total of 146-5 became 169-9, however the impressive Zak Newton-Jenkins (26no) and last man Shorten (7no) held their nerve.
