The Jolly’s Drinks Cornwall Cricket League have agreed to a request from Veryan CC to withdraw their Division 2 East team with immediate effect. Division 2 East will therefore comprise of 11 teams only for the 2016 Season. Veryan CC will now be represented by one team in Div 6 Central.
In a letter to the league the club said it had been trying to find new recruits to bolster its resources but this has proved unsuccessful. The club have seven players who play football (six of whom are first team players) and due to the wet winter, they will not be available to play cricket until the middle of May, or beyond.
’We simply do not have the quality of player in the second team that can make the transition to Division 2. In a bid to encourage youngsters to play cricket, we feel that the only prudent course of progression is to play in Division 6, which will allow players to compete at a level suitable to them.’
