County Division One
Callington v Beacon
at Callington on Saturday
AFTER winning the toss, Aidan Libby elected to bat first, but his was the first wicket to fall when he was caught by Gareth Mankee off Dave Dowling for five.
Callington were welcoming Rhys Davies for his first game of the season, and he and Alex Robinson added 42 before Robinson was bowled by Mankee for 20.
Davies fell on 31, thanks to a catch from young Jack Angove off Dom Batchelor and when Tom Hughes and Dan Hughes and Dan Snowdon both went cheaply, Callington were reduced to 89-5.
Adam Keefe, however, was going well, and he and Andrew Jones turned the innings around, putting 85 before Keefe fell on 45. Jones hit 10 fours in another excellent effort of 61 from 52 balls, and Nathan Lister weighed in with ten, as Callington’s score just crept over 200.
Mankee took 3-37 and Batchelor 2-49, but Callington’s cause was not helped by their last three wickets falling to run-outs.
The match was eventually abandoned due to bad light.
