County Division One
Callington v Roche
CALLINGTON missed out on an immediate return to the Premier Division by just eight points, despite a last day victory over Roche by 36 runs.
After electing to bat first, Aidan Libby was bowled, shouldering arms, in the third over by Ollie Henry. James Long and Alex Robinson added 89 for the second wickets, before Long fell on 43 to the Ian and Martyn Trudgeon combination.
Robinson was bowled by Shaun Trudgeon for 42, but by now all eyes were on Murray Workman, who has already passed the record number of league runs scored in a season in County One (previously held by his fellow countryman, South African Rudi Second), but wanted another 67 to take his total up to a fantastic 1,500 runs.
However, it was not to be, as he played to a Shaun Trudgeon delivery and was bowled for 24.
Joe White was going well, and he made a fine half century off 68 balls, including three fours and two sixes. After that Andrew Jones remained unbeaten on 22 to see Callington up to 239-7 after their allotted 50 overs. Shaun Trudgeon took 3-43 and Ollie Henry 3-51.
The Roche reply started with 28 coming off the first three overs, before Alastair Trudgeon edged one to keeper Joe White off Libby for 17 from ten balls.
Skipper Lee Tarbuck made 20 before falling to a Long catch off Alex Mortimore, and Courtney Rowe was dismissed for just two by the same combination. Henry made 20 before being caught by Nick Parker at mid on off Alex Robinson, who followed that up by trapping Martyn Trudgeon leg before.
Shaun Trudgeon was run out by Long without scoring, after a misunderstanding with Neil Trudgeon who had been in from the start of the innings. His 83 came in 148 deliveries and he was eventually given lbw to Mortimore.
Ian Trudgeon made 19 before being bowled by Mortimore who also took the ninth wicket of Luke Niles, thanks to a catch from Jones. However, Callington could not take the tenth wicket to give then maximum bowling points, and had to be content with 19 points from the game, but that all became academic as news filtered through that Helston had won at Gorran. Alex Mortimore took 5-59 and Robinson 2-26.
