Looe Rifle and Pistol Club made a good start to the 2014/5 season and there are hopes of getting near to last year's success of 10 medals and five cups or shields.

Treasurer George Withers says the biggest tasks facing teams are fitting in practice time and fielding a full team for every match.

'Members have so many outside commitments that we sometimes have difficulty completing the teams; we could do with either some existing youngsters moving up to the challenge or new recruits keen to take up competitive .22 shooting.

Girls and women are welcome – all the other teams in the Horseshoe League have very successful women competitors and Liskeard has a female captain and top-scoring markswoman.

A new venture this year for Looe is membership of the CTSA – the Cornwall Target Shooting Association – which co-ordinates all shooting activities in the county and has a wide membership.

'In the top 26 competitors listed in this year's CTSA popular Charlie competition, seven of the 26 top handicapped shooters are women – including the second highest shooter – so any potential Annie Oakleys are definitely welcome at the Looe club,' says George.
