Some 60 or so Fossils attended the St Mellion veterans' AGM when Capt Andrew Corfield reviewed his months at the helm by touching on the reducing numbers of members actively participating in many events but also on the support he has received.

He highlighted matches with the ladies and the success in inter-club matches where the Fossils were unbeaten at home and had won 12 of the 23 matches overall. He thanked president John Singleton for his help as he completed his three years in office and then welcomed John's successor, Don Bennett, into office. After confirming the membership of the committee, Andrew outlined his plans for his full year in office and how his emphasis would be towards fun competitions and encouraging more participation in events.

After the AGM determined to make all trophy events qualifying competitions, these events would have greater randomness about the draw.

After informing the meeting of the intention to arrange a tour to Brittany in September, the captain concluded the meeting by stating that last year's charity, the Chestnut Appeal, had been supported to the tune of approximately £2,300. He said his charity would be Action for Children.

The AGM was followed by the presentation of trophies to this year's winners, including golfer of the year, Chris Granger who won three titles.

Before the agm there was a nine-hole fun Stableford for players armed with just three clubs of their choice.

The day was cold and cloudy and the early starters set a hot pace and were back in the clubhouse well before the last groupings departed, posting eye-watering totals.

Second out Fred Poyser's 22 points were never likely to be beaten although last week's star, Edward Waugh came close with 21 – this may have secured his winning a new and slightly tongue-in-cheek trophy at the AGM, Bandit of the Year.
