Davis Wood Hockey League South West One
BodMin Men 1
Caradon Men 8
Caradon made the short trip to Bodmin for the closest thing they have to a local derby.
The pre-match team talk focused on regaining their spark and enjoying the game after last week's difficult match against Bude.
Caradon started the game but Bodmin wrestled the ball out of their control and mounted a storming attack on the Caradon circle. This was quickly shut down by the visitors and recycled into an attack of their own.
The Caradon offence is a potent force and within minutes they had scored from a Leon Farrow strike.
Caradon were firmly in control of the game now, playing some of their most fluid hockey.
They moved the ball round the backs and through midfield with ease and it wasn't long before Neil Spencer increased their lead. Farrow smashed in another goal from a penalty corner and Lawrence Pullen scored a cheeky deflection from a lovely Finn Andrews pass.
This put the score line to 4-0 at half-time with Caradon riding high.
The second half continued in much the same way with the visitors riding roughshod over the home team.
Goals from Brian Dannan and another two in a similar vein to the first for Pullen saw the lead between the team grow.
Bodmin managed to claw back a goal when a well-struck through ball was picked up by a Bodmin forward charging through the Caradon defence.
A well-timed slip wide of the diving Caradon keeper made it into the goal by the smallest of margins.
Caradon weren't finished though as Andrews made a run towards the Bodmin circle.
The home defence were following other Caradon players and parted for Andrews, giving him a clear shot on goal as he tepped into the circle – a shot that was slammed into the Bodmin goal with confidence.
It was an altogether better performance from Caradon's men this week and bodes well for the remaining games of the season.
Charlie Daulton was awarded his first man of the match for his outstanding work in defence.
The 8-1 win has boosted Caradon's confidence as they look to their next game against Duchy A at Lux Park.
