CORNWALL Senior Golfers' Association captain Bob Acford welcomed 108 veterans from across the county to his Captain's Day at St Mellion International Resort.

Playing off three-quarters handicap in a four-ball better-ball event, the golfers found the course in excellent condition and played not only for the Captain's Cup, but also two nearest the pin and one straightest drive competitions.

When all the scores were in, St Mellion Fossils dominated the leaderboard, Mike Nancekivell and Tony Prout taking top honours with a runaway 43 points.

Bernard Howley and Mick Heaton pipped David Brockbank and Keith Field to third place on count-back with 40 points.
