Callington Town were stunned this week when manager Steve Blatchford decided to step down following 374 consecutive games in charge of the ECPL club.

Blatchford said: 'It was not like pressing the panic button but it has been great.

'I need a complete break; I took over when the club lost almost all of its players and were in danger of going out of the league. We gained promotion but I felt that the time was right and it is a terrific weight off my shoulders.

'I am sad but life goes on but I needed a different direction. I will now be able to concentrate on getting my pitch maintenance business up and running.'

Callington have been quick to appoint Blatchford's successor – defender Nick Carpenter.

Callington chairman Andy Long said: 'I am sad to see Steve go but he felt it was time to take a rest. He has done a great deal of work for the club and we have parted on good terms.

'He will always be welcome at this club but life goes on and Nick has readily taken on the role.'
