Liskeard School and Community College student Cara Collins is set to compete in an international badminton tournament in Germany next month, following a year of incredible success.

Cara, who is in Year 10, will compete in the Babolat German U17 International in Refrath, near Cologne, between Wednesday June 6 and Sunday 10.

Entering this tournament is a step towards further recognition for Cara, bringing her closer to being considered by Badminton England.

This tournament follows the conclusion of the county season, which has seen Cara achieve a number of tournament victories, including the Senior Ladies’ and U21 Women’s singles titles, along with U18 and U16 successes in both singles and doubles competitions.

Cara was also awarded the U16 Sportsmanship trophy for encouraging and supporting her team-mates.

The U16 doubles success is a particularly notable victory, as Cara’s original partner had to unfortunately pull out at short notice, so she was partnered by Emily Geach, a Year 9 student at Liskeard School. The county coaches, players and parents could not believe Emily had only played a few matches, as she performed tremendously.

A spokesman for Liskeard School said: ‘We would like to congratulate Cara and Emily on their success, and wish Cara the best of luck for the upcoming tournament.’
