Saltash Youngstagers presented their Christmas show, 'Piper's Purpuss' at Burraton community centre on Saturday afternoon and evening.
This was the Youngstagers' 17th show, and it featured the appearance of cats in the town of Baked Alaska. It was produced by Marilyn Grose - who was also responsible for the choreography - and was written by her, assisted by Michael Chenery.
The musical director was Neil Bailey, who was ably assisted by his musicians, Ben Kitt on guitar and Matt Edwards on drums. The make up was by Mandy Wells and the scenery was be a team led by Hilary Fedrick, which included Steve Brettell, Michael Chenery, Russell Manley and Ian Park. The costumes were bright and colourful, and the cast entered into the spirit of the production with great verve.
Rachel Statton performed well as the 'Pied Piper', and the comedy duo of 'Nellie Nickerbocker' (Iain Davis) and 'Pavlova Parfait' (Anthony Chenery) made a could team. 'Prima' (Beckie Elias-Jones), and 'Donna' (Charlotte Snooks), sang with confidence.Emily Grose starred as Top Cat and Helen Manley as Boss Cat, while the other cats were Anna Grose, Amanda Hagan, Hatty Elias-Jones, Jade Partridge and Samantha Brettell. Stephen Gallagher portrayed Felix Malollipop, Kit Heighway the boy thief, Sophie Smith was Yvette, Lindsay Taylor was Havalicka Malollipop, Jamie West was the town clerk, Alex Short the Cockney Lad, Emily Grose was Shimbleshanks and Louise Hagan was Mr Mistoffeles. The girls included Victoria Spencer, Helen Smith, Kirsten Pett, Kaylie Wells, Hannah Partridge, Kym Warrington and Laura Hopkins, and the boys Alex Short, Kit Heighway, Johnathon Greensides, Jack Willcocks, Gareth Gavasingha, Lewis Wells and Nicholas Dale.
The wardrobe mistress was Maureen Manley, the wardrobe assistant Lynne Davis, costume hire was by Loopy Looks, stage manager was Russell Manley, Gofers were Sue Elias-Jones and Anne Spencer, lighting was by Ian Park and Neil Grose, Hilary Fedrick was prompt, front of house was by Carolyn Statton and parents and friends, Jane Smith was publicity officer and Anne Spencer was booking officer.
