Young people from across the South West are raising money for the disaster relief charity ShelterBox with a coffee morning at Nanstallon Chapel near Bodmin on Saturday, November 12.

The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards 2016 participants (from district 1175 – South West Peninsula) have created a Community Challenge to raise £5,563 for ShelterBox within one year (July 2017).

The sum was chosen because 5,563 is the distance in miles between ShelterBox’s HQ, at the time, in Helston, to what was their most recent aid in Ecuador.

At the event on November 12 there will be a variety of stalls from crafts to home-made cakes to bric-a-brac. There will also be a raffle with prizes from the Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and Bodmin Nursery.

Jessica Hill, Event Organiser and RYLA Participant, said: ’It is an ambitious target that we have set ourselves, but I think it’s an amazing opportunity for us to help others.’

There are nearly 30 of the RYLA 2016 participants spread out all over the South West. They have been organising local events from cake sales to pub quizzes to raise the necessary funds and get the word out there. So far they have raised £189.98 - three per cent of their target.

The coffee morning will take place at Nanstallon Chapel from 10am till 12noon.
