A GROUP of musicians from the Armed Forces spent two days passing on technique and advice in Callington. The Band of the Royal Corps of Signals visited Callington Community College to work and perform with young musicians from schools across the area. At workshops during the day, the army musicians gave one-to-one or group tuition. On the second day, the army musicians were back at the college but this time it was to play and hold workshops for adult musicians, including those from Callington Town Band who organised the weekend with the college. The evening saw a concert which Callington Town Band began. This was followed by the Band of the Royal Corps of Signals playing and marching through the audience to the tunes of Cockney Cockade, St Louis Blues, Post Horn Gallop, Lasses Trombone and Hootenanny all the while encouraging the audience to clap, sing and generally join in. Before the interval Sylvia Jacobs presented the town band with a tenth birthday cake that had been made by her daughter Susan Willy. Both bands joined together after the interval and the music they played often had a Cornish flavour.
