LOOE will be adding its voices to the applause this evening as the nation is encouraged to Clap for the NHS on the doorstep.

Last Thursday millions stepped out onto the threshold to pay tribute to the country’s frontline paramedics, doctors, nurses and carers.

This evening at 8pm it is hoped people all over the UK will repeat the act of gratitude.

In Looe, residents plan to join in a rendition of ’You’ll Never Walk Alone’.

Singer Leon Harvey will be hosting an acoustic Facebook Watch Party live from 7.55pm.

?Councillor Edwina Hannaford is helping to coordinate the initiative. She said: ’The idea actually came from local resident Les Walker who contacted me. I asked Pauline Faulkner from the Bullers Arms Pub and John Martin to help coordinate efforts.

’It’s a brilliant idea for the town to show solidarity with our wonderful NHS staff, carers, shop and delivery workers and front line people keeping us safe and looking after us all. The sentiments of the song are so apt. This song was chosen after topping an online poll on the Looe Coronavirus Support Facebook group.’

The lyrics to the Gerry and the Pacemakers hit are below:

You’ll Never Walk Alone

When you walk through a storm

Hold your head up high

And don’t be afraid of the dark

At the end of a storm

There’s a golden sky

And the sweet silver song of a lark

Walk on through the wind

Walk on through the rain

Though your dreams be tossed and blown

Walk on, walk on

With hope in your heart

And you’ll never walk alone

You’ll never walk alone

Walk on, walk on

With hope in your heart

And you’ll never walk alone

You’ll never walk alone
