STUDENTS in Year Nine at Liskeard School and Community College were thanked this week after raising over £750 in one day for the Harvest India charity. During a special assembly, Christine Tipper, trustee for the charity, praised the fundraisers' efforts, which enabled Harvest India to build five bore wells in Andhra Pradesh, southern India. Each bore well will provide clean water for 1,000 villagers, with some money also paying for the maintenance of the wells. Year Nine pupils organised sponsored silences and car washes, and dressed up as 'cleaning fairies' in order to generate funds. Dave Clemow, Head of Year Nine, praised his pupils after the £751.44 total they raised was more than the whole school managed on a recent non-uniform day. Christine initially travelled to India with a team of six people from Grace Community Church, Morval, and will be returning to India within the next three months to continue the charity's work.
