The first 25 minutes of this hard fought DJM match between Saltash YC and SB Frankfort were pretty even. There was good football played by both teams. The respective midfield played really well but cancelled each other out. Seeing as Saltash were playing one of the top sides in the league they could give themselves a pat on the back for the way they played despite a 5-2 reverse.
Michael Corbridge was unlucky when he saw his blistering shot hit the crossbar, and Lee Crook was unable to convert a cross which would have made it 1-0 to Saltash. This was SB Frankfort's wake up call because in very quick succession they scored three goals and went in at half-time 3-0 up.
The start of the second half saw Saltash take control and after four minutes were rewarded with a superbly taken goal by Tom Chambers. Soon after this Michael Corbridge was carried off with what seemed at the time a serious injury, he was taken to Derriford hospital where the diagnosis was one of a severely sprained ankle and luckily not a broken one. Everyone wish him a speedy recovery.
After this SB Frankfort had a couple of chances, one of which was brilliantly saved by Saltash's goalie Barry Horn. Then Saltash were back on the attack. With good passing and interchange football Saltash got through on the right, the ball was crossed in by Andrew Kevern, was then back heeled by Luke Kelly into the path of Lee Crook who coolly put the ball past the despairing goalkeeper.
Things then could have gone either way, but the class of SB Frankfort finally paid off and they ended up scoring two late goals to make the final score 5-2 to SB Frankfort.
Credit must firstly be given to the players of Saltash Youth FC U 14s for the way they played and battled against one of the top sides in the league and to outstanding displays from Man of the match Jamie Sweet and opponents Man of the match Barry Horn. Michael, get well soon. Well played.
