Pensilva Youth U-15 travelled to high flying Torpoint Youth in an exciting DJM U-15 Defiance League clash.
Pensilva didn't start the way they had hoped with Torpoint scoring an early goal.
The half was set to end with a 1-0 Torpoint lead, when Micheal Ruark's persistence paid off, chasing down a poor backpass, and then blocking the keepers clearance, leaving an open net for him to easily score.
Coming out from the break fired up it wasn't long before Pensilva took the lead. Mike Ruark again beating the defence before scoring his second.
Torpoint, spurred on by Pensilva's goal went straight back and got an equaliser.
A Lee Greenway penalty and a powerful low shot from Alex Lindsey extended Pensilva's lead to 4-2.
Mike Ruark completed his hatrick when his pace was again too much for Torpoint and he raced through to score. It was his 24th goal in 11 games.
The defensive players all had a good game goalkeeper Stuart Rolfe, defenders James Martin, Mark Long, Paul Caers and Doug Lloyd.
Tomorrow Pensilva are home to Looe Juniors, meet at pitch 12.00.
A lacklustre DJM U-16 Rodney display cost Pensilva the points when they entertained Elburton at the recreation field. They lost 1-0.
The visitor's scored the only goal of the game after just five minutes when they took advantage of a poor defensive clearance.
Although Pensilva had greater possession at the ball they were unable to break down the Elburton defence, undeed they were restricted to only a few half chances through out the first half.
The introduction at Gerry Richards at half time brought an improved display from the Pens and as with the first half, they dominated the possession. Despite this the visitors were quick to break down any Pensilva attack, this was highlights when Richards broke clear and as he closed in on goal only a brave challenge from the Elburton left back denied him the equaliser. With time running out the home side pushed forward and the ball found Phil Lucas, he tried to 'chip' the keeper and unbelievably the ball stopped on the goal line and was cleared by the defence. The whistle blew for full time and although this was a disappointing display by the home side, both Matt Black and debutant Dan Penhorwood made useful contributions.
More effort will be required this coming Sunday (12th Dec) when Pensilva travel to Newquay in the Cornwall County Cup.
St Cleer U-14's entertained local rivals, Saltash Youth in DJM Grenville and in difficult, windy conditions, both teams produced an excellent game.
Saltash took an 11th minute lead through the lively Lee Crooks. In an even first half, St Cleer went close when excellent play by Craig Hamson saw him shoot over the bar, and Martyn Hake hit a cross cum shot which was headed off the line. There were chances at both ends, but the score remained 1-0 at half time.
St Cleer put Saltash under pressure right from the restart and after good work by Craig Walton and Martyn Hake, Craig Hamson scored a fine equaliser. St Cleer continued to pressure Saltash and Hake saw a long range effort sail over the cross bar. Dan Ball raced onto a through ball and beat the Saltash keeper only to have the goal ruled out when he adjudged to have fouled a defender.
Chances went begging at each end and Saltash hit the foot of the post just before the end.
St Cleer who have never beaten Saltash Youth came very close to doing so with excellent performances from defenders Tom Clack, Neil Davy, James Brown and Jamie Truscott, also a fine midfield performances from Hake, well supported by Craig Walton, Dan Ball, Neil Phillips and Steve Tapper, who was unlucky not to get the man of the match award which was won by James Brown, by both managers.
Robin Brown on his return from injury had a fine game in goal.
Craig Hamson playing as a lone striker, also had an excellent match.
St Cleer gave a fine team performance which will hopefully give them confidence for this weeks match at Kitto Kestrals.
