Pensilva Youth U-15 returned to their DJM U-15 Defiance programme following the Christmas break with a tough game at home at Railway Beacon.
Starting against the wind and playing up the hill Pensilva failed to find the form that they had before the festive period and as a result found themselves a goal down early on.
Good saves from the goalkeeper denied Mike Ruark the equalising goal. Beacon then with a route one clearance went two-up.
After misses from Alex Lindsay right in front of goal and off target shots from many other Pensilva players the game looked to be in Beacon's hands. This was confirmed when they made it 3-0 just before the break.
After a stern half time team talk from manager Chet Hussain Pensilva came out fired up for the second-half. Lindsey atoned for his earlier misses by turning in a low cross. Pensilva continued to press and went right back at Beacon. A bullet like header from Mike Ruark off a Noel Johnson corner gave Pens a second. Their fairytale ending was complete when Robert Pickstonei netted the equaliser. Special credit deserves to go to Doug Lloyd whose last minute tackles throughout the game kept Pensilva in it.
St Cleer Under 14s played their first DJM match for over a month when they travelled to Weston Mill Oak Villa and came away with an excellent and well earned 2-1 victory.
St Cleer started very promisingly, but went behind when Johnson scored for Villa on 10 minutes. St Cleer continued to push forward with James Brown, Steven Tapper, Martyn Hake and Craig Walton controlling the midfield for long periods and were soon rewarded when a through ball by Walton saw Craig Hamson run on and equalised with a fine shot in-off the cross bar. St Cleer defence of Neil Phillips, Neil Davy, Dan Ball, Tom Clack and Jamie Truscott held the Villa forwards at bay in the second half, and Hamson scored an excellent individual goal which proved to be the match winner. Villa replied with several attacks which saw St Cleer 'keeper Robin Brown produce several excellent saves, while at the other end, St Cleer had chances when Hake was denied by a last ditch tackle, and Tapper had a shot well saved by the Villa keeper. Dan Ball also drove a free kick well over.
In a nail biting finish, St Cleer hung on to record a victory, St Cleer man of the match went to Dan Ball who excelled at centre back, and Villas managers award went to Craig Hamson. This week St Cleer entertain Saltash United.
