WORK is getting under way to refurbish an industrial estate and bring it back into use.

The Trevecca Industrial Estate in Liskeard has fallen into a very poor state of repair, and the majority of business tenants left the site some years ago due to the dilapidated state of the buildings, said Cornwall Councillor for Liskeard North Nick Craker.

The land was sold by Cornwall Council earlier this year to a private company, Harpland Ltd, who are now beginning renovations and intend to bring the site back into business use.

Cllr Craker says that he was involved in making sure the sale agreement included clauses to ensure that work started as soon as possible, and that the local authority could ‘claw back’ the site, should it remain empty.

“I am really pleased to see working taking place now, the site is buzzing with activity and several local residents have told me how pleased they are with how considerate and proactive the site staff have been,” said Cllr Craker.

“This is good news for Liskeard and will deliver more local jobs to the town’s economy.

“We know there is extensive demand for industrial land in Liskeard, so I have no doubt the site will soon be occupied, if it is well refurbished, maintained and marketed.”

Go Cornwall Bus, which currently has a depot at Trevecca, is looking for a new yard space for its buses.

Cllr Craker says that he understands the new owners of the industrial estate have granted the bus operator a rolling lease to stay at the Liskeard site should they wish.
