Winter closure threatens trade

With reference to Chris Tamblin's letter concerning the employment effect of Super Stores upon local towns, produced by various research

organisations, I can only quote the words of a well-known politicion (was it Churchill?) "There are lies, damn lies and statistics'.

I do know that true returns from the Department of Employment show that Cornwall has the highest unemployment figure in the country. Much higher in the winter season than the summer.

Not surprising is it, when you think how many holiday businesses of various types close down in the winter? Nothing to do with the numerous superstores that different towns have within their areas.
