Wilton's errand boy
I was employed by Mr Carl Wilton when it first opened, at the age of fourteen as an errand boy. I was there till I was called up for war service in March 1942.
I worked long hours then, 8.00am to 5.30pm weekdays, 6.30am 'till 5.00pm Saturday, all for 10 shillings (50p a week now). Mike and John were only little lads then.
The shop was opened by Mr Jack Heard of Plymouth at first, 'till Carl took it over himself, later on. I used to call in and see John and Mike when I came down to Looe for a few days.I send my regards to John and Mike. Memories are still with me after all these years.
