The 15th annual Seniors' Open Tournament was held over the Kernow Course which, although still undergoing a major redevelopment, proved to be in excellent condition.

Warm and sunny weather was the order of the day for the 128 competitors, including some from Staffordshire and Derbyshire, as well as one visitor from Blairgowrie.

The format of fourball betterball pairings on only three-quarters handicap allowance produced some exceptional scores.

Two Fossils, past captain Alastair Wilson and partner Cliff Sleat, took top spot with a formidable points total of 48, while Peter Pascoe with brother David from Enmore Park were runners up, carding 46.

Terry Moss took both prizes for nearest the pin at the seventh and the 12th. Each hole was sponsored by a local firm, with Vosper's Motor House donating engraved decanters and glasses for the winners.

The prizegiving and meal with a charity draw took place, as Fossils captain Bob Acford raised more than £290 for his nominated charities – the Precious Lives Appeal and the Primrose Centre at Derriford Hospital.

In the draw, ex-Plymouth Argyle player and Fossil Duncan Neale won a round of golf for four at the exclusive Archerfield Links Courses in Edinburgh.
