Some of the country's Solo and Sidecar grass track stars travelled to Cornwall at the weekend to compete for a place
in the British Masters Championship, which takes place next month.
A well-prepared surface ensured plenty of close racing throughout the day, with ten different race winners in both the solo and 1,000cc sidecar classes.
The drama began in the first solo event, as Tim Nobes suffered a puncture which saw him cross the line on the rear rim – but, such was his advantage in the race, he held onto second place.
Matt Etherington took the win, while the other first-leg heats were claimed by Martin Williams, Rod Melksham and Charlie Saunders.
Nobes was forced to push his machine home in the second leg after mechanical gremlins struck again as Dave Mears, Darren Pugh, Williams and Anthony Queripel came out on top in the second leg.
Mark Taylor suffered a heavy fall in the third leg which ruled him out of the meeting, along with Jason Hilliard who looped at the start.
Nobes recovered from his early setbacks for a heat victory, while Melksham took his tally to two, Williams made it three and Rodney McDonald recorded his sole win of the afternoon. The final leg saw Williams complete his clean sheet, with Nobes and Mears each taking their total to two and Steve Leigh getting his first of the day.
Williams claimed the first semi-final spot ahead of Nobes and Pugh, and the second semi went to Leigh in front of Daniel Winterton and Dyfed Evans.
Going into the final, Williams held an unassailable points lead which proved vital when he was left at the line.
With Nobes sitting out the final, having accumulated enough points to qualify, Pugh took the race win ahead of Leigh and Mears.
Final positions: 1, Martin Williams (Jawa); 2, Darren Pugh; 3, Steve Leigh (Nu-Trak GM); 4, Dave Mears (Cornell GM); 5, Rod Melksham (Antig Jawa); 6, Daniel Winterton (Stuha GM).
Heat wins in the first leg of the 1,000cc sidecars event went to Rob Wilson and Terry Saunters, Ric McAuley and Terry Madley, John Hiscock and Simon Beaney, and Ryan Partridge and Anthony Grant.
The second leg saw Matt Tyrrell and Shaun Yates inflict the only defect of the day on Wilson, with Myles Simmons and Kevin Woodley, Paul Whitlam and Alan Elliott, and Peter Lloyd and Nick Wilson adding their names to the list of race winners.
Wilson and Lloyd added second victories to their respective tally in the third leg, with Matt Fumerola and Andi Wilson, along with Rob Bradley and Shaun Simpson, taking one apiece. The final leg saw Wilson move on to three, with Simmons, Hiscock and Whitlam each claiming second wins of the day.
Wilson claimed the first semi-final from Simmons and Tyrrell, while Bradley took the second from Whitelam and Neil Owen and Kevin Colbourne.
Wilson rounded off his day with victory in the final ahead of Bradley and Simmons.
Final Positions: 1, Rob Wilson/Terry Saunters (Steer Honda); 2, Rob Bradley/Shaun Simpson (NME Yamaha); 3, Myles Simmons/Kevin Woodley (KHR Suzuki); 4, Paul Whitlam/Alan Elliott (Phoenix Yamaha); 5, Peter Lloyd/Nick Wilson (Steer Honda); 6, John Hiscock/Simon Beaney (Renegade Suzuki).
