THE Tamar Community Trust is looking for new trustees to help carry out its important work in one of the most beautiful parts of the UK.

It’s never been a better time to get involved, says the Trust: its River Tamar Walkway and Wetland project is currently in full swing at Calstock, alongside opportunities to maintain and enhance other key Tamar Valley AONB sites, including Wacker Quay, Okel Tor and the Tamar Trails.

The Tamar Community Trust is a registered charity and works alongside the Tamar Valley AONB (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) team.

Its aims are promoting sustainable development and regeneration in the Tamar Valley; educating the public on both the landscape and its history; and advancing environmental protection or improvement.

It carries these objectives out mainly by commissioning and coordinating programmes of practical tasks, such as maintaining, creating and enhancing access trails, building bridges, erecting signs and benches, and managing woodland and other habitat.

A Trust spokesperson said: “We create and coordinate practical groundwork opportunities, as well as a training and skills programme to invest in the highly-valued group of volunteers who keep sites maintained and routes accessible for visitors and the local community throughout the year.”

The Tamar Community Trust is looking for up to three new Trustees from a wide range of backgrounds, to complement and strengthen its existing board.

“This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to make a positive contribution to conserving and enhancing the natural beauty and accessibility of the Tamar Valley.”

The Trust is particularly looking for people with the following skills or experience: legal and business, project management, environmental and conservation; heritage; community engagement’ administration and good governance; finance and fundraising.

The Trust meets on a monthly basis and trustees usually contribute a few hours of their time each month, depending on projects and availability.
