I agree with Andrew Field when he says that education should remain the domain of facts and certainty, rather than dogma and ignorance.
Here is a famous quote from Darwin "The number of intermediate varieties which have formerly existed must have been enormous. Why then is not every geological formation full of such intermediate links? Geology assuredly does not reveal any such finely graduated chain; and this, perhaps, is the most serious objection which can be urged against my theory." - Charles Darwin, The Origin of Species, 1859.
Yes, even Darwin is quoted as calling his beliefs "my theory". I borrowed Darwin's autobiography from Liskeard library some three years ago and in the last two chapters are transcripts of letters aspiring to his belief in God after all. Here is a quote from another well-known evolutionist "Nor is there any fossil evidence of any consequence about their ancestors (the supposedly 'primitive' echida and platypus). So we have virtually nothing to help us link these creatures with any group of fossil reptiles."- David Attenborough, Life on Earth, 1979 p207. Doesn't it seem surprising that even those who dedicate their lives to the theory of evolution are stumped that there is no factual supporting evidence! Yes, if they believe it, that's what I call faith!
If we are now raising a generation which is being taught it evolved from an amoebic blob of protoplasm and has evolved by random selection into what we are today, is it surprising that youngsters can feel worthless, of no value and of no significance in this enormous cosmos of haphazard space and time? Is it any wonder that we witness a world where life itself is considered cheap?
Jessica Warne (CT Jan 14) is absolutely correct when she suggests the biblical account is no longer promoted as fact. It seems somehow to have become lost in all the promotion of evolution. Yet, just look at the stars by night, such precision in such vastness; look at the seasons as they come and go; see how the sun rises each morning and sets each night; how plants bud each spring; how the birds know the times and seasons. Order. Not chance, but design of the highest order; in other words, creation. The biblical account has been witnessed, recorded and supporting evidence and personal testimony are in abundance.
