Farm Energy Centre (FEC) has produced two new publications to help farmers and growers in the year 2000.

'How To Get Connected' is the latest farmers' guide which outlines the procedure involved when new electricity supplies are required or the existing service is altered. The booklet advises farmers on what to do when installing equipment which may need a new or reinforced electricity supply.

The guide contains useful information on how to make the most of existing electricity services and avoid the cost of excess supply capacity. It explains such issues as supply components, meters, load details and tariffs. A checklist for electricity supply applications will make the farmer's task easier and will enable him to communicate effectively with his electricity supplier.

Efficient lighting is essential for farming enterprises.

The FEC's new 'Farm Lighting Guide' gives information on the latest lighting technology and advises farmers on the correct lamp type and fittings.

Subjects include lighting requirements for the assured combinable crops scheme and advice for farmers on suitable manufacturers.
