WE were intrigued to read the letter in the Cornish Times from Councillor Gregory regarding the 52 bus. He seems to be suggesting that we should ignore the genuine concerns of the people in Saltash who had approached us on this matter, including some members of the League of Friends at St Barnabas Hospital. We were quite right to contact the bus company to see if these fears were justified and get an assurance that the route was not under threat. The 52 provides a much-needed service to Derriford Hospital for those with no transport and an alternative for those with a car who do not wish to face the parking problems at the hospital. What is even more amazing is Councillor Gregory's assertion that the county council is responsible for the bus service! The bus company is a private company; the county council has a limited subsidy available for some routes which it uses fairly across Caradon and the whole of Cornwall and has to apply under Government guidelines. In the meantime we shall continue to address concerns brought to us by the people of Saltash and where appropriate work as a team with Colin Breed our MP.
