Premier Developments (1995) Ltd has applied for planning permission to take down the Waterside Inn in Tamar Street, and build an accommodation block consisting of five apartments with private parking and amenity spaces. Planning consent is also being sought for a lock-up hot food retail unit at garage level.
The application was previously deferred for a site meeting to be carried out after concerns were raised over the visual impact of the scheme.
Saltash Town Council objected to the development saying the pub, which is currently empty, was of historic importance to the town. Councillors said the replacement building would result in 'a significant detrimental impact on the waterfront', which they pointed out was of 'substantial importance' as the gateway to Cornwall.
Cornwall Council's East Planning Committee is due to consider the application on Wednesday when approval is being recommended.
