FUNDRAISERS from Liskeard have been putting their best feet forward in purple this month to bring in cash for Cancer Research UK.
Relay for Life team members are doing their own socially-distanced 5k walks for Stride Cornwall after an organised event had to be cancelled.
“While purple is the Relay colour, it’s also the colour for Pancreatic Cancer awareness month,” said fundraiser Joy Parker.
“People have worn purple wigs, purple clothing and carried purple gerbera. Even ‘Patch’ the team mascot for Creative Academy Cornwall turned out in a purple high vis jacket.”
While some teams have completed one 5km walk, others have elected to do a walk on each of the five weekends in November, and locations so far have included Lanhydrock, Plymouth’s Barbican, Seaton Countryside Park, Plymbridge, Duloe and Saltram.
Two of the Parkers’ Pink Ladies team members who live in Chippenham decided to set themselves the challenge of undertaking five 5k canal walks: mother and daughter Carolyn Bridge and Paula Jenkins have already completed walks at the Wilts and Berks Canal and Pewsham Lock, the Kennet and Avon Canal and the Thames and Severn Canal at Wallbridge Lock, Stroud.
There are still two weekends left in November, so people can still get involved, says Joy, either by walking, or simply by making a donation to Cancer Research UK Relay for Life Liskeard: visit https://liskeardrelay.org for full details.
