On the New Year bank holiday Monday, 60 walkers joined Liskeard and District Museum volunteer Brian Oldham for a walk in the winter sunshine marking 100 years since the closure of the Liskeard & Caradon Railway.

During the second half of the 19th century the LCR provided a vital link between the mines and quarries of the Caradon area and the canal and railway hub at Moorswater.

During the First World War, however, the track was lifted and taken to France to help take supplies to the front.

Brian was able to show copies of old photographs held at the museum, as well as giving background information on this aspect of local history.
