A New Year bank holiday walk on moorland will mark 100 years since the closure of the Liskeard and Caradon Railway.

The line opened during the mining boom of the 1840s. It was used to transport copper ores and granite from the mines and quarries of Caradon and Gonamena to Moorswater. From there, they were taken to Looe.

The collapse of the copper mines meant the line closed in January 1917.

A 4.5-mile guided walk on January 2 (weather permitting) will be led by Brian Oldham. ‘On bank holiday Monday, I’ll be at the Heritage Centre Car Park, Minions, at 10.30am to walk along the old track bed around Caradon Hill,’ he said.

‘This is to mark 100 years since the GWR closed the line. Please join me, but only if it’s a dry crispy morning, not a wet soggy one!’
