FRIENDS and family of a man who ‘loved life’ will set off to walk 100km in his memory.

Jeremy Durrant died November 2016 after four years of suffering with Motor Neurone Disease.

Now his aunt Sue Horler from Pensilva, and her son Tom, from Saltash, are preparing to take part in the Jurassic Coast Challenge, a 100km (63 mile) walk from Poole to Bridport in Dorset.

The hike, which is set to take place next month, was suggested by Jeremy’s wife Emma as a way to remember Jeremy and to raise funds for the Cornwall Motor Neurone Disease Association. Sue and Tom will be joined by Emma and the rest of a seven strong team, Martin Vanstone, Paddy James, Polly Arscott and Ryan Christophers, as they take on the two day challenge.

The group, who go by the title the ‘Lifton Self Preservation Society’ first began fundraising in 2016 and each year has seen them take on a major fundraising challenge; in the first year they cycled from John O’Groats to Land’s End, in 2017 they took part in the Great River Race up the Thames, and the Jurassic Coast walk will be their main event for 2018.

The grand total raised so far stands at £42,000 and the friends say they would love to top the £50,000 mark.

This year, the group has already staged a quiz, a big breakfast, a golf tournament and a band night to raise funds for the cause.

Their next charity event will be a night of live music featuring The Lost Cousins at Pensilva’s Millennium Centre on Friday June 29 (8pm).
