After opening this year's exhibition, What's up Doc? at the Saltash museum, mayor and mayoress Bob and Jackie Austin presented an accredited scheme certificate. This means that the Saltash museum is recognised as reaching a certain standard in all aspects of its operation, and is also recognised by the Heritage Lottery fund. The scheme sets out an agreed minimum standard for a museum's performance in key areas of work, from developing and managing collections to providing visitor facilities and services. An accredited museum is one which meets these standards. There are 230 registered museums in the South West. The volunteers are thrilled with their new status, and only wish they had bigger premises to expand and show their many exhibits. This year's exhibition features 60 years of the National Health Service, with accent on the local hospital and medical services to the community.
