Chamber of commerce secretary and Torpoint town councillor Mike Briggs is concerned that the town's Christmas lights are in jeopardy if no volunteers come forward to help with the 'Big Switch-On' this year. Councillor Briggs has been involved with the organisation of Torpoint's lights since 1980 and, although he is stepping down this year, he has arranged for the lights to be put up. Hands-on volunteers are needed to help the council and local businesses to organise the 'switch-on' day. This could mean helping to close roads and set up stalls on the big day. There is a meeting at the committee room of the town hall on Wednesday, July 12, at 7.30pm for anyone who wants to see the continued success of Torpoint's Christmas lights.
