CHAIRMAN of the Saltash Partnership, Cllr Stephen Tait, has encouraged local residents to air their views on the proposed new supermarket by writing to the town council. Speaking at last Thursday's meeting, held at the Guildhall, Saltash, Brian Pedley said it would be an advantage to local people, while chairman of the Saltash Chamber of Commerce, Bill Cotton, said that it was wrong to change an industrial site into retail and especially when there were retail site vacancies in the town centre. Some people who shop in Saltash Fore Street have commented that they would like more retail outlets in the town centre as it used to be years ago, with a wider selection of choice. In other news, Mr R Feltham reported that the Botus Fleming Parish Council is to take over the organising of Saltash Youth Activity Day event to be held on May 8 at Hatt. A donation of £200 has already been made by the Partnership to help fund the event. Councillor Brian Carter suggested that a letter of thanks should go to the Community College for their mural in Fore Street. He also suggested that mosaics should go on the other side of the bridge over the tunnel road, and that the Saltash schools and the parish schools be brought in to do the mosaics.
