THANKYOU to Christopher Sutton of Liskeard for this photo of last night’s pink moon.

A pink, or supermoon occurs when a full moon coincides with the moon being at its closest point to earth duirng its 27-day orbit. Of the possible 12 or 13 full (or new) moons each year, usually three or four may be classified as supermoons, and the most recent occurred on March 9, 2020,

Occasionally, a supermoon coincides with a total lunar eclipse. The most recent occurrence of this was in January 2019, and the next will be in May 2021

Claims that supermoons can cause natural disasters have been refuted by scientists.
