THE pupils of Looe Primary School will be in 19th century costume when they take the train on Saturday, September 11, to travel the short distance from the station to Sandplace. There they will alight and walk along the lane to Polraen Country House Hotel, the setting for their Victorian Fayre. The fayre, which runs from 2.30pm - 5pm, is to raise funds for the school and falls on the 125th anniversary of passenger services on the Looe/Liskeard Railway Line. It is also part of the Looe Valley Walking Festival. The school have found the 125th anniversary to be an ideal link for their studies of the Victorian era as part of the National Curriculum in the new autumn term. Head teacher Tony Wardle said: 'This activity enriches project work that the upper juniors will be experiencing and also enables the school to make a positive contribution to the community.' Held in the grounds of Polraen, the fayre will include traditional games, Victorian cream teas, recitals and dancing, and a licensed bar. There is also a grand raffle organised by SECTA who are supporting the event. Gill Bridges who runs Polraen with her husband Martin said they have been delighted to offer their facilities for the event. 'It will be lovely to see the children in costume enjoying a traditional family day out,' she said. Visitors to the fayre are being encouraged to travel by train to help alleviate the parking in the hotel car park. There are trains departing from Looe at 14.10 and 15.40 and from Liskeard at 13.30, and15.10. Journeys leaving Sandplace back to Looe are from 16.33, 17.33 and 18.32, and to Liskeard from 15.45, 16.48 and 17.48.
