A Torpoint veteran’s memory will live on as an inspiration to future generations of sea cadets in the town.

Arthur Corbridge served on HMS Renown during the Second World War and took part in the Arctic Convoys.

For many years, Arthur laid a wreath in Torpoint on behalf of the HMS Renown Association, of which he was a member.

When it became physically impossible for him to carry out this task, it was continued on his behalf by a trainee from HMS Raleigh.

It was the request of the HMS Renown Association that a photograph of Arthur be placed somewhere at Raleigh, said Rosemary Southworth of Torpoint’s Royal British Legion.

‘The TS (Training Ship) Ramehead cadets agreed to accept the photograph, along with a collage of HMS Renown and her sister ship HMS Repulse, and to put them in the rooms allocated to them at HMS Raleigh,’ she said.

‘Arthur was Royal Navy through and through. I am sure that he will be looking down and giving inspiration to the young people who are potential future Royal Navy trainees.’
