A POPULAR skateboard park could be closed due to vandalism, as the council responsible for it says it is unable to keep on paying out local taxpayers' money to carry out the necessary repairs.

The well-used skateboard park at Rapsons Field in Liskeard has had its boundary fence broken down on a number of occasions, and at the most recent town council meeting the clerk, Andrew Deacon, said the last repair bill had been £600.

The fence is the responsibility of the town council as a planning condition, so councllors were informed there was no option but to keep on repairing the fence each time it is damaged.

But councillors agreed something had to be done about the vandalism. It is now under consideration to erect a notice at the skatepark, warning that further vandalism will lead to its closure. The council is to liaise with PCSO Della Maloney over help with surveillance in the park.
