FISH landed at Looe can now be purchased from anywhere in the world with the launch of a new online bidding system.

The development places Looe among the most modern fish markets in Europe – and will enable local fishermen to reach the widest number of interested buyers, says director of Looe Fish Selling Steve Farrah.

'This modernisation will allow existing buyers and potential new buyers to bid from remote locations at their computers in their offices,' he said.

The modern market opened in 1987. Since 2004 an interactive website has enabled customers to see which fishing boats have gone out and where they are, and what the day's catch will be before it comes in. Now with the online bidding system, the final piece in making the market as modern and efficient as possible is in place, said Steve.

'The development and investment in the upgrade is part of a longstanding collaboration between Looe Harbour Commissioners and the Looe Fish Market,' he said.
