PARENTS in the Looe area facing the expense of ‘Back to School’ purchases can get a helping hand from their community.

Donations of uniform, PE kit, stationery and equipment are being requested for the Looe Community Cupboard at the Millpool.

The cupboard was launched last year as a way to help people with the cost of essential items during the pandemic.

Cllr Edwina Hannaford is encouraging people to see the latest initiative as a “swap” – and bring along the things they no longer have use for, in exchange for picking up an item they need themselves.

Items such as blazers, fleeces, trousers and skirts, shirts and ties will be welcomed, as well as pens, notebooks and rules, shin pads, football boots or back packs.

“It’s an expensive time for parents kitting out children for the new school year, so we are asking for donations of school uniform items that children have outgrown,” said Cllr Hannaford,

“They need to be clean and in good order. You can just drop off items at Looe Library and Community Hub on the Millpool when open, or leave in the Community Cupboard outside. You might want to sign up for Library membership while you are there.”

The Town Council is asking that items are washed and clean, placed in a plastic bag and clearly labelled with the size, male/female and which school.

Edwina added: “We can take items for Looe Primary and Secondary School and Polperro Primary Schools.

“We will try and post a list of items donated on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/looegiveandtake/
